Ilayathalapathi Vijay says that though all the songs in his latest release Vettaikaran have turned out to be chartbusters, his favorite among the lot is Puli Urumuthu. The actor is happy over the film’s music and says that the credit for making it a huge success goes to the music director Vijay Anthony.
Vijay attributes the success of Vettaikaran not only to the film’s director and producer but also to Sun Pictures. If the film has not been promoted the way it was done by the Sun Pictures, it would have been impossible to get the opening it got now, he adds.

Much prior to Vijay’s ‘Vettaikaran’ hitting the screens, here is great news for the actor and his fans as well. Close sources have confirmed that Sun Pictures has shown keen interest in acquiring the rights of Vijay’s 50th film ‘Sura’.
‘Sura’ features Vijay and Thamannah in the lead roles and is directed by S.P. Rajkumar. The director S.P. Rajkumar is making his comeback in Kollywood taking a sabbatical after ‘Azhagar Malai’. First schedule of the film was recently completed and the entire crew is busily shooting for the following schedules in Pondicherry and Vizag.
According to the trade reports, ‘Vettaikaran’ has been sold out for a big price and it has gradually encouraged Sun Pictures to ink a deal with Vijay’s ‘Sura’ as well.

ILAYA THALAPATHY VIJAY
Vijay has become the commanding force of the Tamil industry with popularity and business support next only to the superstar Rajinikanth. But, the success and the adulation did not happen overnight. His journey has met with several obstacles and failures. His determination and self-confidence have brought him the laurels. Vijay comes from a family which has strong experience in the film industry. Father, S. A. Chandrasekaran is a popular director and mother Shoba is an accomplished playback singer. Vijay has a soft corner for anyone who answers to the name Vidya for it is the name of his sister who died when she was just two. He made his debut as a child artiste in the film, Vetri. His first film as hero was Nalaiya theerpu. He has acted in 48 films so far. Films like Rasigan, Senthurappandi and Deva made him the badshah of B and C centres while Kadhalukku mariyadhai, Poove unakkaga, Once more, Gilli, etc. made his appeal sore among the urban audience.
He is the youngest actor to have won the MGR award from the Tamil Nadu Government and Kalaimamani title. His inspiration are MGR’s Nadodi mannan, Rajini’s Annamalai and Vijayakanth’s Sattam oru iruttarai and Vanathaippola. Vijay is talented in all aspects of acting like dance, action and emoting. He has worked with perseverance to hone his skills and prove his detractors wrong. At 31, he is the youngest star to have completed 48 films and already there is competition about who would produce his 50th film.
Vijay has excellent rapport with his peers Ajith, Prasanth and Surya.A shy and intensely private person, Vijay has steered clear of any controversy. He is happily married to London-born Sangeetha. They have a son, Jason Sanjay and a just-born daughter. A total family man, he prefers spending his free time with his wife and kids and can only be rarely seen in filmi gatherings. He is an accomplished sportsperson who can play basketball, football, cricket and volleyball. He plumps for idli and dosa with coriander chutney and hogs on seafood, chicken, tandoori and Chinese dishes. There were several pinpricks about his appearance and doubts about his talent. He has steadily strode to thrash them out and today is a leading star with mass appeal. Behind the smile is the sweat of perseverance.

CAREER
Vijay's career graph has been markedly different from Ajith's. While Ajith's has had several ups and downs (think of a sine wave!), Vijay's has been a slow but steady rise to the top followed by a steep decline. He had the immense advantage of having a popular director as his father and so, found an easy entry into films. It was his father S.A.Chandrasekhar who introduced him as a hero in Naalaya Theerppu in 1992. But he did not stop there and continued to make several movies with his son as hero. Though these movies (in most of which Vijay was paired with Sangavi) were steeped in vulgarity and unabashedly targeted the front benchers, they achieved the important objective of keeping Vijay in the public eye.
Vijay's real break came with Vikraman's Poove Unakkaaga. The movie rewrote box-office records and Vijay, who departed from his typical roles to play a soft-spoken, lovelorn youngster, found his ticket to stardom. He perfected the role in movies like Love Today and Nilaave Vaa and gradually found increased acceptance among the fairer sex too. The peak that I mentioned before in his career was undoubtedly Fazil's Kaadhalukku Mariyaadhai. The movie was a blockbuster and the latest in a string of hits that placed Vijay in the hallowed company of Rajnikanth and Kamalahassan as far as the distributors were concerned. At that point, he could do no wrong as even Priyamudan, where he played a negative character of a youth obsessed with a woman, became a hit.
Vijay's downfall started with 1999's Endrendrum Kaadhal. His movies started falling like nine pins and he must have seen the writing on the wall with the failure of Minsaara Kannaa, which was helmed by hit director K.S.Ravikumar. His father hastened his downfall with the terrible Nenjinile. The last nail in the coffin, so to speak, was Fassil's Kannukkul Nilavu. The failure of this movie, which brought together the same team that was behind Kaadhalukku Mariyaadhai, has shaken Vijay's confidence. But his personal life has always been on an even keel and he was recently married to Sangeetha after an arranged alliance. Memories are notoriously short in Kodambakkam where an actor or actress is only as good as their last hit. With Kushi too being a disappointment at the box-office, Vijay is desperately looking for a hit for some time now to get back into the race and make things interesting for the viewers. He has several releases this year like Friends, remake of a Malayalam superhit and Priyamaanavale, reteaming him with Simran. Lets hope these push him back into the race.

VIJAY'S AIM
There is no aim as such for me. I came without any aims to the industry. I felt happy when people accepted me as an actor. Now people are comparing me with Rajini Sir. God has given me more than what I expected. So, I will work very hard to sustain that position
